Independence Seaport Museum

Tattoo-a-tron

Greenhouse Media was commissioned by the Independence Seaport Museum to design and fabricate an interactive exhibit for Skin & Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor. Prompted by the gravelly voice of a tattoo artist and the buzz of his tattoo machine--an intermittent audio track played through a hidden speaker--visitors were encouraged to take a seat in the “tattoo parlour”. After selecting one of four iconic sailor tattoo designs, visitors could watch the design being “tattooed” on their forearm, while the tattoo artist told them of the origins of the design.
