THE ROAD TO MASS INCARCERATION
Client: Eastern State Penitentiary

Greenhouse Media (GhM) managed and produced multiple audio-visual installations for Eastern State Penitentiary's exhibition Prisons Today: Questions In the Age of Mass Incarceration. The centerpiece of the exhibition was the installation The Road To Mass Incarceration; an immersive narrative piece charting the history of American criminal justice policy that resulted in today's mass incarceration crisis. The installation consisted of a 6-monitor video-wall and a vintage 1960's television console retrofitted with up-to-date electronics. Historical footage of politicians discussing crime and debating public policy over the course of five decades are cut and composited with historical news footage, text and motion graphics describing the rise in U.S. prison population over 50 years and current efforts to to reform public policy.
